“World Cup 2026” revives Canada’s economy

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) published the results of the economic impact assessment preceding the 2026 World Cup, the matches of which will be distributed among 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico and America.

FIFA said in a statement on its official website that the report, which covers the period from June 2026 to August 2026, estimates that preparations for the World Cup and hosting it will bring economic profits to Canada’s economy amounting to $3.8 billion Canadian dollars.

The first match in the 2026 World Cup will be held in Canada, when its national team plays the first match in the group stage in Toronto on June 12, 2026.

The report indicates potential contributions of $2 billion Canadian dollars to Canadian GDP, and $3. C$1 billion in labor income, plus C$700 million in government revenue.

The report estimates that the 2026 World Cup will create 24,100 jobs in Canada while maintaining them throughout the period covered by the report, and that every Canadian dollar spent on preparations for the tournament or visitors who will attend the tournament will contribute 1.09 Canadian dollars to the country’s gross domestic product.

The FIFA statement added: As for the matches hosted by Canada, the tournament is supposed to contribute an average of 155 million Canadian dollars to the gross domestic product per match, in addition to creating or preserving 1,850 jobs in the country.

These results were reached based on data provided by the 2026 World Cup team and the Canadian Local Organizing Committee team, supported by data prepared by the team of economic experts at Deloitte Canada responsible for the study.

It is also expected that the 2026 World Cup will help produce unprecedented income sources of more than 14.8 billion Canadian dollars throughout the financial cycle that extends from 2023 to 2026.
