Dune Part Two is the upcoming sequel to the 2021 science fiction film Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve. The first movie is based on the first half of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert, which tells the story of a young man named Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet) who becomes embroiled in a power struggle for control of the desert planet Arrakis, which is the only source of a valuable substance known as “spice.”
The first movie ends with Paul and his mother Lady Jessica (played by Rebecca Ferguson) surviving an attack on their group by the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (played by Stellan Skarsgård) and his forces. Paul begins to embrace his destiny as a leader and messiah figure for the native people of Arrakis, known as the Fremen, who see him as their prophesied savior.
